MONTHS of preparation returned a record effort for three shearers at Dubbo on Saturday.
The trio have shorn their way into the World Sheep Records Society’s (WSRS) record book for the most number of Merino ewes in a day by a three-stand shearing team.
Their eight hour marathon resulted in 1289 ewes shorn in front of a crowd estimated at 1000 people in the Parkdale Merino stud and flock woolshed 36 kilometres north-west of Dubbo on the Collie Road.
Top tally of 461 ewes was shorn by Beau Guelfi, originally from Kukerin, Western Australia and now based at Gilgandra, who had successfully completed two other shearing records several years ago in New Zealand and Hamilton, Victoria.
Close behind with a tally of 432 ewes was Bob White who runs his own contracting business from Trangie, while Gilgandra-based Steve Mudford, shore 396 ewes.
