AT the 10th annual Wantana on property ram sale at Boorowa on Thursday, 26 Merino rams from a draft of 30 sold to a top $1600 and averaged $780.
The top priced ram was purchased by return client Peter Darmody, “Wybimbie”, Beckom, for an August 2013-drop son of Wantana 54.
He weighed 80 kilograms and had wool fleece measurements of 16.7-micron, 3.6-micron standard deviation (SD), 21.6 per cent co-efficient of variation (CV) and 99.8pc comfort factor (CF).
Mr Darmody said the ram had a good frame and excellent wool.
“He is a finer type sheep and his wool measurements were very even,” he said.
Mr Darmody also secured the second top price ram for $1200, as well as a further six, taking his tally to eight rams.
Co-principal of the stud Bill Darmody said he was pleased with the clearance and was happy with the number of return clients present at the sale.
The sale was a Helmsman auction with Rick Power, stud stock, Landmark Boorowa, directing the event.
