VICTORIAN Paul Walton, Wurrook Merinos, Rokewood, will make the 12 hour trip home with the Australian Supreme Merino Ram today.
Going up against the NSW, Queensland and South Australian rams of the year, the Victorian took the win when judged at the National Merino Sheep Show and Ram sale, Dubbo, on Wednesday.
The champion ram was awarded Victorian ram of the year and supreme Merino exhibit at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show, Bendigo, Victoria, in July.
Sired by Merryville Hamilton Giant, the rising two year old ram measured a fleece with a fibre diametre of 16.7 micron, a 2.6-micron standard deviation, 15.6 per cent coefficient of variation, and 99.6pc comfort factor.
It was the first time Wurrook had won ram of the year, and the ram will now return home to be used as a stud sire.
The National Merino Ram Sale will get underway today, with more than 60 of the country's best sires up for grabs.
