A HOLSTEIN heifer calf has sold for an Australian dairy record $112,000 at the Global Impact Sale held at Lardner Park in Gippsland, Victoria, on Tuesday.
Offered by Rocky Allen, Cowra; Alex and Jared Cochrane, Nowra; Craig Cochrane, Geelong, Vic; and Jeff Nelmes, Nowra, the three-month-old Parrabel Rockstar O'Kalibra-Imp-ET was the first of 67 lots to go under the hammer.
Sale manager Callum Moscript said after very spirited bidding the calf was purchased by Frank and Diane Borba, California, US, by American agent Dusty Schirm.
The calf was the first direct daughter of an Excellent 97 dam - in this case Decrausaz Iron O'Kalibra RC - to be sold in Australia.
Mr Moscript said because the dam was in Europe and embryos could not be sent from Europe to the US, the Global Impact Sale provided an opportunity to take the impressive cow family to North America.
Ms Moscript said the inaugural sale event also smashed the record for an unjoined Jersey heifer, with Lightning Ridge CMD Verbatin Karlie-Imp-ET selling for $22,000.
The heifer was a 'pick of the pair' lot offered by Declan Patten and Callum Moscript, Sale, Victoria, and was purchased by Daryl and Greg Bryce, Green Pines Jerseys, Nullawarre, Vic.
The sale averaged $8970 with the Holsteins avergaing $9240 while the Jersey offering averaged $7883.
