ANOTHER strong performance for the Corrigan family at Rennylea Angus, Bowna, has cemented them as one of the top Angus studs in the country.
A variety of large and small buyers continued to return to the Rennylea sale barn to source what they regarded as industry leading genetics.
The run of strong bull sale results continued at Rennylea as a total clearance of 77 bulls was achieved one their way to a $13,500 top price, while averaging a remarkable $7162 average on the back of the modest top price.
Rennylea stud principal Bryan Corrigan opened the sale and remarked on how well the genetics were producing with all the sale bulls from weaning to scanning averaging 1.5 kilograms a day off grass with no supplementary feed.
To show the consistency of the sale the first 10 bulls averaged $7200, before recording rocketing to a $7800 average after 20, before holding firm at $7675 after half the draft, $7208 after 60 and then at the completion of the 77 head to average $7162.
In amongst the hot action, commercial buyers found their place also between $3000 and $5500, with 23 of the 77 head selling for this money, while at the other end 10 bulls sold over the $10,000 mark, offering a bull for every budget.
The top bull was a 738 kg, Tuwaretoa Regent son, Rennylea J474, with low birth at +3.8, through to strong 600 day at +106, with good milk at +18, positive carcase data, including an intra muscular fat percentage of +3.7, putting it in the top one percent of the breed, coupled with a +138 heavy grain fed $Index value.
He was secured by Peter Collins, Merridale Angus, Tennyson, Victoria, for $13,500.
Funny Hill Pastoral Company, Binda, paid $12,000 for their top bull in a draft of three averaging $9833.
They secured three sons of home bred sire Rennylea F266, with low birth weights, good growth, high eye muscle areas, positive carcase data and fats, with high $index values across the page.
The team at Funny Hill Pastoral, produce weaner calves for their own special weaner sale held in March every year.
Volume buyer Andrew Bourchier and his son Angus, "Burrongong", Urana, have a large scale cropping operation and dabble in cattle to breed and trade, with 500 to 800 breeders running at any one time.
The Bourchiers paid to $10,000 for the 720kg, Rennylea J569 sire by Dunoon Finite F301, in a draft of seven bulls averaging the father and son duo a respectable $8143 average.
Mr Bourchier said he trades a few cows, as well as runs a breeding herd, with an aim to get EU accredited once he gets his trade cow numbers down and take the next step of EU accreditation off grass.
"Figures are very important to us and we target low birth weights under +4, as they must be able to do it on their own and these bulls will be joined to 300 heifer awaiting their arrival, as well as average growth, low mature cow weights, positive fats and if we can keep IMF and EMA up at the same time it is a nice bonus," he said.
Mr Bourchier said he chooses Rennylea for the fact the Corrigans are one of the best in the business at record keeping, which allows him to buy bulls with a high accuracy EBV figures, knowing exactly what he is going to get.
Return clients Mount Schanck Estate, Mt Gambier, South Australia, paid $10,500 for an impressive Regent son, while loacls Mulgoa Pastoral Company, "Yammacoona", Holbrook, paid $11,500 for a stylish F266 son, again in top one percent for IMF, along with a second sire for $6000 and Shepstone Park Trust, "Shepstone Park", Bookham, loaded a Regeant son with a +7.4 EMA and excellent carcase data for $10,000.
