MEAT processor Bindaree Beef has entered into a contract to purchase the Mulligan family’s Myola feedlot at North Star in northern NSW.
The move was confirmed today in a statement released by Bindaree Beef Group (BBG), just two weeks after it announced a merger with meat marketer Sanger.
Myola is the largest custom-feedlot in NSW, with a capacity of 20,000 head and turnover capacity of around 80,000 head per year.
BBG has confirmed the acquisition will proceed on a business-as-usual basis, with BBG welcoming Myola's operations team under the leadership of Myola’s general manager Jeff Dight.
“Global demand for meat protein is soaring, and Australia has a brilliant opportunity to satisfy this hunger with quality Australian product - while at the same time, restoring our beef industry to viability,” BBG chairman John ‘JR’ McDonald said in the statement.
“BBG is determined to capitalise on this opportunity by earning our stripes as Asia and the world's butcher - by providing meat products sourced from quality-centred operations and delivered efficiently to the world's markets.
"BBG is driving efficiencies in our business to ensure we are meeting the needs of our suppliers as well as our customers. Effectively we need to ensure we are managing a quality-centred supply chain from paddock to plate and Myola helps delivers this.”
The Mulligan family has owned and developed Myola for more than two decades.
Family spokesperson Lyndon Mulligan said Bindaree had a strong relationship with Myola in the past and the move would be a "real positive for the region and Australian agriculture".
