RECORDS were broken today at Mumblebone Poll Merino on-property ram sale, Wellington.
With a record top price of $7500, the Taylor family sold 120 rams to a full clearance and averaged $1827.
The top priced ram sold to Jim McLaughlin, Merryanbone North Poll Merinos, Warren.
The top-priced ram measured 17.9-micron with a coefficient of variation (CV) of 18.6, standard deviation (SD) of 3.3 and comfort factor (CF) of 100 per cent.
He was sired by Leahcim 445 and had Australian Sheep Breeding Value (ASBV) of +9.5 for yearling weight (YWT) and a post weaning weight (PWWT) of +6.7.
Mr McLaughlin said he was looking for a stud sire.
“He is a good all round ram, with a good body, wool and the figures to match," Mr McLaughlin said
“We like to keep new blood coming in each year."
The second top ram sold to Towyn Jones, Yass for $5000, Mr Jones secured three rams in total to an average of $3000.
Co-principal Chad Taylor said that there sale was roughly about $200 up on last years average and top price.
“It’s great to see new interstate buyers and stud breeders,” Mr Taylor said.
“We are happy with the record top price, and the top priced ram is going to stud breeder that has similar philosophies to us.”
The sale was conduct by Elders, Dubbo with Paul Dooly, Paul Dooley Pty Ltd, Tamworth at the rostrum.
