FIRST-CROSS ewes from the Yorke Peninsula made the top-price of $230 at the Naracoorte first-cross ewe lamb sale on Thursday, October 19.
The ewes came from Bronte Mumford, Minlaton, with 160 Border Leicester/Merinos, seven months, bought by PPH&S Naracoorte.
The Border Leicester sires of the top-priced ewes were from the Glencorrie stud and the Merino dams were Murkaby-blood.
Jabuk farmer Ian Farley, Marmon Hill, was one of the volume vendors on the day, selling 2544 ewes for an average of $173.
Mr Farley's top-price was for a line of 148 Inverbrackie-blood ewes, that sold for $210 to Elders Millicent.
Schulz Livestock, Field, sold 124 Inverbrackie-blood ewes, seven months, for $196 to Miller, Whan & John Mount Gambier. They also sold another line of 217 at $172 to R&SV Giles, Lucindale.
For the third year in a row McMahon Bros, Lameroo, were awarded the best-presented pen. It was for a pen of 190 ewes, sired by Johno's rams and out of Gunallo-blood dams. The pen made $218 and sold to Elders Naracoorte.
