POLYMATH Stella Axarlis AM will give the National Centre for Dairy Education (NCDE ) 2015 oration at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre tomorrow, November 25.
Dairy Australia Industry, People and Capability group manager Shane Hellwege said Ms Azarlis’ has had a career of “incredible diversity, determination and inspiration”.
She has been a mathematics teacher, internationally acclaimed opera singer, managing director, board member and community advocate.
“She was a member of the Prime Minister’s Science, Engineering and Innovation Council for a maximum of three terms and a member of the Premier’s Victorian Economic, Social and Environmental Policy Council and is an ideal speaker for our second annual oration,” Mr Hellwege said.
“A recurring theme in Stella’s achievements is education, making her an ideal person to give the 2015 NCDE oration and her speech is entitled ‘A lifelong pursuit of excellence through education’.”
In 1998 Ms Axarlis became a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of her contribution to training, business and work helping children with disabilities.
In 2002 she was recognised in Victoria’s Awards for Excellence in Multicultural Affairs and in the following year received a Centenary Medal.
In 2011 she was awarded the inaugural, pre-eminent Lifetime Achievement Award for her lasting contribution to Victorian Education and Training (VET) practice.
Last year, Dr Cameron Archer, then principal of Tocal College, gave the inaugural NCDE Oration.
The NCDE is the dairy industry’s national education system with campuses and courses in every dairy region in Australia.
