STRONG competition was felt on all of the 17,500 cross-bred weaners yarded during the third annual circuit sale in the Yass district.
Conducted by local stock agents Butt Livestock and Property Pty Ltd, company director Phill Butt said the sale was “extremely strong”.
“The quality of the lambs was reflected in the sale result,” Mr Butt said.
Equal top price of $108 was paid for the pen of 107 Poll Dorset/Merino lambs, June/July drop offered by Cavan Station, Yass.
“It was a fantastic price and is a combination of market conditions and better genetics and seasonal conditions,” Mr Crozier said..
“Our lambs are four kilograms heavier than last year.”
The top price was shared with Brendan Corkhill, Garryowen Pastoral Co, Binalong, for his offering of 1547 Poll Dorset/Merino lambs, July/August drop and weighing an average of 39kg.
“The lambs looked good after a tough winter,” said Mr Corkhill who co-manages the “Garryowen” property with his brother Martin.
“But the late spring rain has been invaluable.”
