IN what is believed to be the largest single vendor female breeder sale in NSW and possibly Australia this year, 930 Angus and Angus cross cows with Limousin calves at foot sold up to a top of $2330 and averaged $2226 through AuctionsPlus last Friday.
The quality offering from the Austen family’s well respected Hartley Grazing Company “Glencoe”, Mendooran, was the last of the dispersal of the Angus and Charolais/Angus (Euro) cross herd which comprised of 2800 breeders under the close management for many decades by the company’s general manager, Norton Crane.
Selling agent, Simon McKittrick, Logical Livestock Marketing, Mudgee, said the exceptional offering of breeders from four to predominantly seven years of age were keenly sought after and went to Victoria, Riverina, central, western and northern NSW restockers.
The sale grossed $2,068,470 with the four to five year-olds averaging $2188 and five to seven year-olds $2318.
Angus breeders made up the most in numbers with 650 selling while the Angus and Charolais/Angus (Euro) cross and Murray Grey cross females numbered 280 head.
The Euro and Murray Grey cross breeding units averaged $2180.
Mr McKittrick said the lowest price paid in the whole offering was $2100 and calves at foot were sired by Greenacre and Brigalow Limousin bulls and were from two to four months of age.
“They would have weighed an average 170 kilograms all up,” he said.
