MANILLA doctor Cameron Henderson has been recognised for more than 40 years in medicine with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
Dr Henderson, who received the honour for service to medicine as a general practitioner (GP) in the Manilla region, said he was humbled and excited and the patience of his family - his wife Jenny and children Alex, Anna and Jack - contributed to his success.
"It's a team effort in the Manilla community, we've enjoyed our time here," he said.
"Our 38 years in Barraba and Manilla have been easy because everybody works together.
"The staff at the surgery and the hospital are very important because we rely on each other so much to do the work we do."
Dr Henderson (pictured) was a GP in Barraba from 1976 to 1981 and the director of Barwon Division of a General Practice from 2000 to 2006 and provided health checks at AgQuip between 2000 and 2008.
Dr Henderson is also the adjunct lecturer, Faculty of The Professions, School of Rural Medicine, University of New England and conjoint lecturer, School of Medicine and Public Health, University of Newcastle.
