THE pub made famous as the watering hole of Mick ‘Crocodile’ Dundee has been sold.
The Walkabout Creek Hotel at McKinlay in north west Queensland, made famous in the movie Crocodile Dundee, has been bought by Frank and Debbie Wust who fell in love with the pub en route to the Boulia camel races.
“We were visiting a friend in Boulia, who previously owned an outback hotel himself, and on the way home we stopped at the Walkabout Creek Hotel and the rest is history,” said Mr Wust, a miner at the Callide Mine, south west of Gladstone.
“Most people buy Harleys when they have a midlife crisis, but we thought we’d buy an outback pub.”
No price for the sale has been disclosed however marketing agents Raine and Horne said it was a “significant six figure sum”.
The seller, publican Paul Collins, had owned the hotel for 28 years.
The pub was built in 1900 as the Federal Hotel.
It was shifted from its original location about 20 years ago after the redirection of the Matilda Highway.
“The pub was renovated at the time, however the character depicted in the Crocodile Dundee movie was maintained,” said sales agent, Nathan Henderson, Raine and Horne Ingham and Beaches.
