NSW Irrigators Council will kick the New Year off with a search for a new chief executive, following Andrew Gregson’s announcement that he will vacate the role.
Irrigator’s chairman, Richard Stott, said Mr Gregson had been a strong advocate at a critical time for the organisation.
"Obviously the Basin Plan was a huge issue for irrigators - and still is," Mr Stott said.
"Andrew assisted Council in ensuring that our voice was heard where it counted in Canberra and Sydney. His advice to broaden the Basin Plan issue to include a range of other groups - and his execution of that - were particularly valuable.
"Our biggest achievement in the last six years has been building our profile through a communications strategy both internally and externally.”
Mr Gregson said: "I've greatly enjoyed working for - and with - food and fibre producers for one simple reason; they're worth it. They're a great group of people who I've been delighted to turn up for every day.
"There's a big future for agriculture in Australia - and irrigators lead that future. It has been both a pleasure and an honour to represent them."
