A MASSIVE glasshouse operation on the NSW Northern Tablelands could be set to get even bigger.
Costa’s tomato farm at Guyra is hoping to double its glasshouse area to fulfil its growth strategy in the next five years.
NSW Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner, who visited the farm on Friday with Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall, said NSW Trade and Investment was working with Costa to support its efforts to expand.
It’s backed the company’s bid for funding for a new 20-hectare glasshouse facility under the Regional Industries Investment Fund which provides financial support to significant investment projects that drive economic growth and support job creation in regional NSW.
Mr Marshall said Costa was already one of Guyra’s biggest employers with the planned expansion hoped to create more than 300 extra jobs.
“Costa already employees 350 employees during peak season and with this expansion, more local people will be able to find jobs, which will be of huge benefit to the region.”
The Guyra operation currently comprises two highly controlled 10ha glasshouses which produce truss tomatoes for its Blush brand and cocktail truss tomatoes.
