WELL-KNOWN northern cattle industry identity George Scott is seeking election as a director on the Meat and Livestock Australia board for the first time, while two current directors are seeking re-election.
MLA yesterday announced the resolutions to be voted on by MLA members at the company’s annual general meeting (AGM) in Wodonga on November 14.
MLA says members will be asked to vote on three board director nominees, with Mr Scott seeking election for the first time, while two current directors, Michele Allan and Lucinda Corrigan, are seeking re-election.
MLA says the board director nominees were selected from a field of over 90 candidates by the nine-person industry selection committee based on the skills and experience that the committee was seeking.
Yesterday Dr Michele Allan was announced as the new chair of the board, after NSW cattle producer Rob Anderson stood down as chair at an MLA board meeting in Sydney.
Dr Allan is a past executive director and non-executive director of Patties Foods Limited and was previously a non-executive director of the Dairy Research & Development Corporation and Food Standards Australia and New Zealand.
Current board positions include Ruralco Holding Limited, Innovation Australia Forest and Wood Products Australia, chair of William Angliss Institute, and Grains and Legumes Nutritional Council and a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Lucinda Corrigan is a director of Rennylea Angus, a leading beef genetics business in southern NSW.
Over the past decade Ms Corrigan has been a director of four cooperative research centres and was deputy chairman of the CRC for Future Farm Industries.
She is currently chairman of the advisory committee of the Graham Centre, a partnership between Charles Sturt University and NSW Department of Primary Industries. She is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation.
George Scott has broad knowledge of beef production systems, resource management, genetic development, breeding programs, land management and industry associations.
He is currently managing partner of Scott Cattle Company producing commercial cattle in Queensland and South Australia, and a Director of Thylungra Cattle Company Pty Ltd and Kyabra Creek Pty Ltd.
Mr Scott has held senior executive and representative roles in the Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association (NTCA) and has been a member of the Barkly Regional Advisory Committee to the Northern Australia Beef Research Council.
All MLA members are automatically allocated a single vote at the AGM, however to receive their full voting entitlement members must complete and return their levies notice, or lodge their levies online, before the October 3 deadline.
Levies notice packs were mailed to all MLA members in July.
To order a replacement notice, members should phone MLA on 1800 675 717.
