THE Yaraka horse and motorbike gymkhana was deemed a huge success with about 150 competitors taking part in both sections of the sporting day on June 30.
The horse events clocked 95 competitors while the motorbike competitions saw 58 competitors rev up for the day at Kiama Park, in Yaraka.
Families travelled out for the day of sport, from as far away as Darwin, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba, as well as strong support from the local community.
As well as a reasonably large contingent of local horse and bike riders, competitors also come from the surrounding districts of Blackall, Longreach, Isisford, Windorah, Stonehenge and Allora.
A successful auction was conducted in the evening with over $3500 raised, and all proceeds from this event will go to the RFDS and other local organisations.
The winner of the major raffle prize, a 12 month subscription to Queensland Country Life, was won by John McKenzie.
Placegetters in the under 16 girls walk, trot and lead event were Bella Joseland, Yaraka, third ; Jessica Scott, Yaraka, second, and first Andi-Claire Pegler, Yaraka. Click on the image above to see more photos in our online gallery.
