THERE may be a perception that you would not find any million dollar earners, but Peter Milling – principal of Dubbo auctioneer house Peter Milling and Company - who will conduct its annual Dubbo Thoroughbred Yearling Sale later this month, said you never know.
“There may not be any Makybe Diva’s or Black Caviar’s (at the sale), but you just never know,” Mr Milling said.
“It’s a country trainer’s sale. You can buy a sound yearling at Dubbo, and have a bit of fun with it (horse).”
The 44th renewal of the Dubbo sale is scheduled for Sunday, January 24.
Consisting of 60 lots, the auction will be conducted undercover at the Dubbo Showgrounds.
Successful graduates from recent years’ sales include Emirates Park-sold gallopers and Tas Morton Port Macquarie-trained winners Another Charger (by Eavesdropper) – a winner of nine races including the Armidale Cup and $171,285 – and this season’s winner Aarhus (Mutawaajid).
Another of their successful Mutawaajid graduates includes last year’s entry Rather Sweet, a Gary Nickson prepared two-year-old filly that pushed the smart Thyme For Roses to the line in Sydney last spring.
A half-sister to two black type gallopers (stakes winner Lock It In Eddie, and stakes placegetter Yellow Jambhala) opens the sale.
The filly by the proven sire Strada (stands at Riverdene Stud, Wagga Wagga) was produced from Believable, dam of four winners.
A total of 25 sires will be represented with progeny with Great Britain-bred Bullet Train, a three-quarter-brother to the great Frankel, being the lone first crop sire having his first Australian yearlings at the sale.
Progeny at the sale by proven stallions include US-bred Astronomer Royal, Big Brown and Eavesdropper, Irish bred Lope de Vega, French bred Equiano, and Australian bred Bon Hoffa, Charge Forward, Domesday, Dreamscape, Excites, Magic Albert, Manhattan Rain, Nicconi, Snippetson, Strada, Supreme Class, Zariz and Zizou.
Young sires with progeny include Dr Doute’s, Dream Ahead, Ilovethiscity, Money Or The Gun, and Moshe.
