A CONVOY of trucks, expected to stretch across more than 50 kilometres, is being co-ordinated to transport more than 5000 round and square bales of hay from southern NSW to drought-stricken graziers in northern Queensland.
Initiated by fourth-generation farmer from the southern Riverina Brendan Farrell, the hay will be distributed to graziers as far north as a 300km radius around Ilfracombe, more than 1860km from the starting point at Darlington Point in NSW.
Mr Farrell said he became concerned for his fellow livestock producers after reading about the struggle families were having coping with many seasons without rain.
Mr Farrell had completed nine trips to Queensland delivery hay, and the current convoy would link with other trucks at Cobar before heading north.
