Third year student and Western Sydney University Hawkesbury campus resident, Grace Scott has been busy working away at her degree hoping to graduate this year and pursue a career in ag science.
Ms Scott as part of her degree said she's started running a small experiment on grass type plants to see how beneficial fungal colonies in the soil are affected by salt stress.
"I was awarded the Sir John Pagen memorial scholarship for horticulture last month as part of the Big Brother Movement at NSW parliament," she said.
"The scholarship is mostly for students with art interests, but there's also an agriculture/horticulture category."
As part of the scholarship Ms Scot said she will be travelling to England in June for a month long internship, working in the area of plant biotechnology.
“I'm interested in genetics in plants and the ability to enhance their capabilities with micro-organisms, growing more with less inputs to have a higher yield.”
