MERINO ewes sold to $168 while Merino wether lambs made to $92 at the 68th annual Dunedoo Breeders Sheep Sale today in a total clearance of the 8100 head yarding selling to widespread areas within the state.
A total of 6544 Merino ewes of mixed ages resulted in young ewes selling from $96 to $162 while older ewes ranged from $81 to $168.
Two offerings of Merino wethers totalling 949 head, all June/July 2015 drop, sold at $74 and $92 respectively.
Some 602 first cross ewes offered from five breeders topped at $170 and sold down to $150.
Top money of $168 was for a pen of 164 Merino ewes of Egelabra blood, 4 ½ years-old and December shorn, bred by Kevin and Ann Hookway, “Byalla Downs”, Dunedoo, scanned in lamb to White Suffolk rams to commence lambing in March.
These were purchased by prime lamb breeders Gary and Mary Nott, “Minemoorong”, Dunedoo, who have decided to reinvest in Merino wool growers.
Top pen of the 1 ½ year-old ewes was a pen of 215 Merino ewes of Egelabra and Bella Lana blood, May shorn, bred by Warren and Mavis Leeson, “Anglewood”, Dunedoo, selling at $162.
The $92 a head Merino wether June/July 2015 drop lambs of Allendale blood were bred by Anthony and Libby James, Springvale Pastoral Company, Coolah.
The Jackson family’s “Burrie”, Birriwa, bred $170 a head top pen of first cross ewes was purchased by Stephen and Jenny Yeo, “Yeomont”, Leadville.
