Merino ewes sold to $191 and first cross ewes to $160 in a yarding of 8500 sheep during the 2016 West Wyalong District Sheep Breeders Association yesterday.
Andrew and Catherine Koop, “Winnora”, Girral, bred and sold the top pen of 150 unjoined Merino ewes of Austral Eden blood, July/August 2014 drop and June shorn to Glen Robinson, “Gladstone”, Temora, who kept bidding as he wanted the big framed young sheep he knew the Koops breed.
“I’ll join these in March/April to Poll Dorset rams,” Mr Robinson said.
“I bought 830 ewes today as I need replacements and will join others to Border Leicesters for my self-replacing first cross flock as well.”
Two pens sold at $178 a head with the first being 201 Merino ewes of Haddon Rig blood, July/August 2014 drop and December shorn bred by David Patton, Merrigreen Farming and Grazing, Ungarie, selling to a Boorowa district restocker.
The other pen of 155 Merino ewes of Blue Bush blood, August/September 2014 drop and July shorn, were bred by Allan Forsyth of Forsyth Pastoral Company, West Wyalong.
Glenoak Farming, West Wyalong, gained top first cross ewe price of $160 for a pen of 90 ewe lambs April/May 2015 drop, October shorn and from Austral Eden blood ewes joined to Mt Beckon Border Leicester sires.
Merino wether lambs topped at $83.
