THE cool airs of the Tablelands kept show-goers comfortable at this weekend’s 2016 Tenterfield Show.
And the precipitous eastern slopes of the dividing range pushed back the heaviest rain just long enough for judging to decide who presented best on the day.
Alumy Creek Angus, from Tenterfield caught the judges eye with their bull Alumy Creek Upshot K81 being awarded all-breeds champion male.
Tenterfield High School very popular agricultural class, led by teacher Phil Jones, scored highly in the judges’ eyes, taking out senior and reserve female champion in the Angus breed. Alumy Creek had a role to play with this outfit, too: former Tenterfield show champion bull Goliath G17 sired all the young cattle on display.
The old British breed Red Poll were a feature of this year’s Tenterfield show and 14 year old Cameron Jones of Roselee, Bundarra, proved he has ability beyond his years by winning grand champion bull.
Young brothers Keiran and Ben Sullivan, Rosedale, Uralla took out grand champion female, also highlighting the importance of youth in the current beef industry.
Sheep were well presented, with Andrew Hines, ‘Johndol’, snaring champion lamb of show.
The Lanz family, ‘Yarramundi’, scored wool exhibit of the show for their prime Merino fleeces, gleaned from clean and well-managed country at Deepwater.
