IT MAY have been their last “hoorah” as far as on-property sales go, but the Powell and Dunlop families’ 11th annual Munna Wiltipoll ram and ewe sale at Coolah last Saturday will be remembered for years to come.
Stud rams sold to $2500 when a total auction clearance was effected of 31 rams averaging a whacking $1487, up $542 on the sale average of 20 rams last year.
Twenty stud ewes topped at $450 a head to average $356, an increase of $106 on last year while 60 commercial flock ewes topped at $350 to average $325, up $122 q head on last year.
Considered the best ram in the sale catalogue, Peter and Judy Colless, Carthona stud, Wingham, kept bidding to $2500 to secure a grandson of Carthona 184 a sire out of the Tasmanian bred Bussey 4.
Peter Colless said the 18 month-old A1 classified ram weighing 99.5 kilograms would fit perfectly within the style of sheep bred at Carthona.
“184 has done a wonder job within the Munna flock and we will use this grandson as an outcross,” he said.
their purchase was described by Mr Colless as a “beautifully structured ram with good depth and a very good backend”.
Scott and Regina Michell, “Castletop”, Narrabri, paid to $2000 for four stud rams averaging $1475 while securing five August 2015 drop Australian White sired rams to average $1420, plus two stud ewes at $300 each.
Peter O’Hare and Company, “Greendale”, Beckham, paid $2200 for another 18 month old stud ram while Colin Duck, “On The Pond”, Muswellbrook, paid $2100 for a 94kg ram as did repeat buyers Des and Gloria Houlihan, “Kurrajong”, Manildra.
Another returning buyer, Bill McGrath and Barbara Stewart, “Wongawilli”, Coolah, bought two stud rams at $1100 each plus two poll rams by Australian White sires at $110 and $1000 while also outlaying $300 each for six stud ewes and an average $313 for 21 flock ewes.
The couple have been buying Munna stock for eight years and also run 300 Dorper/Wiltipoll cross flock.
Tamworth district Ironbark Wiltipoll stud, operated by the Moss family at Piallamoore, returned after first buying in 2011 to take home 20 commercial ewes at $325 each and eight stud ewes topping at $400 to average $337.50.
The sale was conducted by Jason Hartin of Hartin Schute Bell, Narromine, with local identity, Bill Tatt of Christie and Hood, Binnaway, the guest auctioneer.
