LINTON SuperBorders sold to a top of $1200 and Poll Dorsets reached $1300 at the annual on-property sale at Walcha on Monday.
In the Border Leicester sale, 25 of the 31 rams offered were sold for a clearance of 81 per cent and average of $884.
The top ram was one of four bought by first-time Linton clients Scott and Jack Cole, “Nordale”, Delungra, who will use the ram in their commercial flock of Dohne ewes.
Scott Cole said he focused on growth rates when selecting the ram.
“We’ll put the Border rams over Dohne ewes for first cross lambs to get hybrid vigour,” Mr Cole said.
The Coles also purchased the second highest selling ram for $1100.
James Swales, “Woodlands”, Torryburn, and David Lisle, “Netherton”, Walcha, each purchased a ram for $1050.
The volume buyer was John Finlayson, “Pointsfield”, Armidale, who purchased seven rams for a top of $1000 three times and average of $921.
Mr Cole, Mr Swales, Mr Lisle and Angus Monie, “Merlin”, Walcha, each purchased four rams in the auction.
In the Poll Dorsets sale, the average was $886.
Robert Watts, “Nangoo”, Walcha, bought the top Poll Dorset ram for $1300.
Andrew Burgess, “Ruby Hills”, Walcha, purchased the second highest selling ram for $1200 and bought two more rams for $1100 each.
Mr Burgess was the volume buyer, taking home six rams for an average of $933.
The sale was conducted by Landmark Boulton’s Walcha, with Chris Williams taking the bids.
