ROB and Kelly Lamoureux, “Kingsford”, Armidale, were considering entering the Beef Spectacular Feedback Trial to test the validity of their breeding program.
However, success in a past trial with a team bred by them, but entered by the purchaser, encouraged them to take part this year.
The relative success in each of the sections led to the leading team entered by the Lamoureuxs to be awarded grand champion for the pen of five steers out of the 72 teams entered.
The black Simmental/Angus steers were judged first for feedlot entry, fourth for feedlot performance and third for carcase, giving enough points to be awarded first for team performance.
Mr Lamoureux said he was pleased with the result, and he will enter another team next year to continue building data on the performance of his stock.
“We think these trials are important for the industry, if we are to meet future demands for high quality meat produced efficiently,” he said.
“The feedback will enable us to evaluate our aims.”
