A NEW $32 million funding pool is available to rural communities that have been affected by mining.
NSW Minister for Regional Development John Barilaro is encouraging local communities to work together to develop strong applications for the latest round of Resources for Regions program.
Since 2012 more than $207 million has been allocated to mining-affected communities for infrastructure projects across health, water, road, education, and tourism sectors.
Deadline for the latest round of applications is April 7.
“Mining is an important contributor to the NSW economy, but it puts extra pressure on community infrastructure,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Applications to fund economic and social infrastructure projects are now open to communities in local government areas outside the Sydney metropolitan area.”
Projects previously supported by Resources for Regions include the renovation of Maitland’s High Street ($9.9m), the Singleton CBD renewal ($9m), the Broken Hill Civic Centre project ($5.1m), Narrabri airfield upgrade works ($6m), the Portland waste water upgrade ($10m), and the Muswellbrook Hospital redevelopment ($24m).
