STUCKEY Pastoral principals, David and Victoria Stuckey and sons Gavin and Tom, “Corella”, Condobolin, took out the coveted Don Brown Memorial Merino Ewe competition for the second successive year.
The two-day field day fixture this year covered 15 Merino flocks throughout the Condobolin region judged by John Carter, Wallaloo Park stud, Marnoo in North West Victoria and Max Wilson, Wilgunya stud, Dirranbandi, Queensland, with associate judge Sophie Watson, Maisters Swamp stud, Kentucky.
All placegetters came from the north of Condobolin.
The field days attracted some 110 Merino enthusiasts on Monday and Tuesday this week who took the opportunity to network on the coach between flock visits while close the 120 people attended the combined Condobolin Show Society and competition awards dinner at the Condobolin Sports Club.
The Corella flock based on Willandra and Belswick blood is classed by Chris Bowman and had 470 May/June drop, April shorn maiden ewes on display from a 100 per cent lambing in 2014.
Runners-up were Rob and Belinda Neal, “Lockerbie”, Condobolin, with 600 July shorn May/June 3014 drop ewes from a 100pc lambing of Darriwell blood and classed by Tom Kirk. This is the Neal’s first placing in the competition.
The McDonald Brothers’ “North Condobolin” flock operated by Graham and David McDonald and families gained third placing with their display of 783 October shorn maiden ewes of 109pc lambing in June/July 2014 of Woodpark blood and classed by Michael Elmes.
“North Condobolin” won the competition in 2012 and placed third in 2013.
