A HEFTY youngster from Watasanta Santa Gertrudis, Tamworth, cleaned up junior and grand bull and best exhibit for the Watson family, under judge, Scott Ferguson, Glen Oaks Santa Gertrudis, Nobby, Queensland.
The 802 kilogram, 18-month-old Knockout outclassed the senior and grand female, Rosehill Jessica 2, exhibited by John and Rosemaree McCarthy, Rosehill Santas, Clifton, Qld, for best exhibit. Knockout measured 128 square centimetres of eye muscle area (EMA) and 13 and nine millimetres rump and rib fat.
Neil Watson, Watasanta, said he and wife Rosalie’s son, Jack, selected Knockout’s sire, Waco Chancellor, prior to the 2013 Yarrawonga-Waco sale, held at Wallumbilla, Qld, where they paid $36,000 for the bull. Knockout was a heifer’s first calf, being from the Atomic daughter, Watasanta 1379.
Reserve to Knockout was Watasanta Keeper, by Grand Boy. Keeper, at 18 months, weighed 800kg, with 10mm and 6mm of rump and rib fat, a 117cm2 EMA, and will be offered on-property on August 17.
Senior bull, Watasanta Kidman 1928, also by Chancellor, was from Watasanta C897, the dam of a bull sold to S. Kidman and Company, which went on to be one of Kidman’s top sires.
Kidman, 19 months, weighed 844kg, with 20mm and 12mm of rump and rib fat and a 116cm2 EMA, and with Knockout was placed first in the pair of bulls, under two years.
The McCarthy’s grand female, Rosehill Jessica 2, by Yarrawonga Versatile and from Glen Oaks Fabiana, had won champion tropical female at Clifton Show. A flush sister to the $45,000 Rosehill Jamieson, Jessica was shown with a 2.5-month-old bull calf and was the McCarthys' only exhibit.
Reserve senior female was Denngal Heidi F27, by Denngal Tonto T1 and from G.B.L. Heidi and was exhibited by Dennis, Gail and Greg Moxey, Forbes. Reserve senior bull, Rockingham K14, was by Burramurra 38 and from Rockingham F131. At 19 months, K14 weighed 710kg, with a 114cm2 EMA and 8mm and 10mm of rump and rib fat. K14 will be offered in Rockingham’s sale.
