AT 81, Robert “Bobby” Gregory, is a legend of Sydney Royal Show, not having missed one in 78 years.
Mr Gregory, from Manilla, was named Show Legend 2016 before a huge crowd gathered for the interbreed judging last Monday.
Described as an icon of the Sydney Royal cattle section, his longevity and outstanding achievements during his showing years and since retirement have become part of the fabric of the Royal Agricultural Society (RAS).
RAS general manager agriculture Murray Wilton, Glenorie, said Mr Gregory considered the Royal his second home.
Mr Gregory said he had enjoyed every minute of his involvement with the show and looked forward to it every year. His anticipation of the next event began as soon as the last event ended.
Mr Wilton said Mr Gregory typified everything the show represented.
“I’m proud to present you with the show legend award for 2016.”
And with that Mr Gregory’s name was etched into the history of the show he holds so dear.
