THREE established farming blocks in the Yass Valley have Sydney-siders, Canberrans and Gundaroo locals talking.
Nestled between two of Canberra’s rural outposts, Gundaroo and Sutton, the three properties (two of which adjoin) feature gently undulating grazing land which is suitable for a variety of enterprises.
“Loch Fyne”, “Brooks Creek” and “Innistair” are being offered for sale through Colin Medway, CBRE. Buyers have the opportunity to secure all three places (totaling 510 hectares or 1260 acres) or select any of the three properties as individual assets.
The “Loch Fyne” aggregation was put together by Dr Roderick “Rocky” McEwin from 1974 to 1984. Dr McEwin is a noted medical practitioner who had a distinguished career which included being the chairman of the NSW Health Commission among an array of medical positions across three states.
Having grown up in Balaklava, South Australia, Dr McEwin, now 94, grew a passion for farming and according to his youngest daughter, Ann, kept a rural retreat wherever he went during the course of his career.
“He always enjoyed escaping to “Loch Fyne” on his weekends while working in Canberra,” she said.
During Mr McEwin’s tenure he built the two-bedroom home on “Loch Fyne” and constructed shearing, hay and machinery sheds.
He used the three properties to produce superfine wool.
Ms McEwin said the properties were well-watered and carried pockets of native timber for shade.
“Loch Fyne” has a carrying capacity of 250 DSE, “Brooks Creek” 500 DSE and “Innistair” 350 DSE. Each propery is equipped with a set of sheep yards.
Expressions of interest close May 12.
