WIDESPREAD rain over the weekend has been a welcome relief to many parts of the state, but not all areas were lucky to receive a decent dumping.
Falls as heavy as 104 millimetres were recorded at Merrygoen, between Mendooran and Dunedoo, but dry stories and patchy outcomes are continuing in areas such as the New England towns of Moree and Inverell recording only 2mm.
Just south the skies opened up and delivered steady falls across Saturday afternoon and Sunday at Tamworth and Quirindi recording more than 28mm, Gunnedah measuring 25mm, Narrabri 15mm and Baraba 11mm.
At Armidale they didn’t fair as well with Sunday falls of 8.6mm and Glen Innes 3mm.
This was the first significant rain to the region since early February.
In the state’s south Riverina region, Deniliquin received falls of 34mm with storms gathering 18mm in one fall on the Friday night.
In the Conargo area lesser falls of 10mm to 15mm were measured.
Elders Deniliquin merchandise manager Tony Scoullar, said any rain was going to be welcome.
"We've been 80 days without rain, so it was very welcome," Mr Scoullar said.
"It was good soaking rain, with a lot of crop sown dry, it looks good."
In the Southern Tablelands Friday night brought the heaviest falls of 20mm in the Goulburn/Crookwell area with another 12mm falling in the early hours of Sunday morning.
In inland NSW Wellington had a total of 25mm from both Friday and Saturday night falls.
At Cowra in the Central Tablelands 50mm was measured while the Orange region had between 28mm and 40mm with the bulk of it coming down on the Friday night.
Bureau of Meteorology spokesman for NSW David Barlow said the Central West did by far the best across the state.
"From Dubbo to Cobar there were totals of 40 - 50mm and totals of 15-25mm further west," Mr Barlow said.
"This was mainly an inland rain event, in a line from Tamworth to Cobar and down towards Young."
He said the Illawarra and South coast missed out on the rain, as did areas north of Moree.
Some measurements around the state included Rankin Springs 22mm, Dubbo 30mm, Nyngan 53mm and Cobar 43mm.
He said over the course of three days an area south west of Trangi did well, with 72mm, 66mm of which fell in one day.
Mr Barlow said there was a chance of falls on the north west slopes in the next few days, but the rest of the state could expect dry conditions until at least the weekend.
"The current forecast is a fair chance of 5mm to 15mm at Dubbo at the weekend, but you can expect dry conditions until Saturday," said Mr Barlow.
