It was a clean sweep of top broad ribbons for a Millthorpe stud at the NSW State Sheep Show, taking out top accolades on the Suffolk judging mat.
Under judge Bianca Williams, Cassilis, Bowen Suffolk stud, Millthorpe, tested the judges eye with multiple quality representations of the Suffolk breed.
It was Take Two, a ewe lamb of 11-months-old who took out the supreme Suffolk of the show, after already gaining earlier attention with a champion ewe sash and first class win in its ewe lamb class.
Exhibited by William Good, Bowen Suffolk stud, Millthorpe, judge Ms Williams commended the young ewe for its femininity with a “great depth of barrel”.
“She is such an upstanding ewe and very alert; even as we are standing here she is making herself known,” Ms Williams said.
Noting the ewes wonderful top-line, Ms Williams commended the breeder, Greg Good, Bowen Suffolk stud, Millthorpe, for his “beautiful exhibits”.
Mr Good said he believes her length was the winning characteristic, saying she is an extremely long but balanced ewe.
The strong exhibit was sired by Western Australian ram Pamellen Highway, who was a full sister to the supreme Suffolk exhibit at the Royal Adelaide Show two years ago and the reserve champion ewe at Sydney and Canberra royal shows this year.
“She is just a tremendous ewe,’ Mr Good said.
Success continued in the ram judging for Bowen Suffolk stud, taking out champion ram with Double Barrel, over Lindean Suffolk stud, Bathurst, in reserve, exhibited by Reece Webster, who was also later sashed most successful exhibitor.
The 2015-drop ram came first in its class milk tooth lamb class and presented a complete package of great coverage and true to breed type Suffolk head.
Reserve ewe champion was sashed to Milton Park Suffolk stud, Allara, QLD.
With more than 80 entries in the judging ring, the Suffolk breed was commended for presenting a quality line up of sheep.
