The reputation of Gundagai district bred cattle was evident when 1667 quality stock met complete clearance at the annual weaner and store cattle sale at Gundagai.
Conducted by Agstock Pty Ltd, Gundagai, company director, Kate Lenehan quoted the market as being full firm on recent sales.
“The steers sold exceptionally well, and the sale was obviously up by about $200 on last years sale,” Ms Lenehan said.
Stock went to local restockers, and buyers from Forbes and Wagga Wagga competed with feedlot interests.
A feature of the yarding was the annual draft of 785 Angus weaner steers and heifers, 9-10 months, KO and Bannaby-blood and yard weaned, offered by Sam and Sue Chisholm, Bundarbo Station, Jugiong.
The top pen of 60 steers sold for $1050, which price station manager, Jim Renshaw, said was $220 up on last year.
“It was a very good sale, with values comparable to all previous sales in the district,” Mr Renshaw said.
Bundarbo Station sold another line of 40 Angus steers for $1025, with a further pen of 20 Angus steers selling for $990.
The Bundarbo offering of 435 steer weaners averaged $934 which was $218 up on last year with thier 330 heifer weaners averaging $712ich was $146 above last year’s average.
Other significant sales included 12 black baldy steers, 11 months, sold by Caroline Spittle, “Kingslea”, Bookham, for $1145, and 17 Hereford steers, 10-12 months, sold by Yaven Pastoral, Yaven”, Adelong for $1140.
Angus and Caroline Waugh, “Picadilly”, Coolac, sold 22 Angus steers, 8-9 months for $855, while a second pen of 13 Angus steers, sold for $850.
Lightweight steers varied in price form $620 to $800.
Heifers attracted a lot of attention, with 27 Angus heifers, 9-10 months, from Bundarbo Station, Jugiong, selling for $785, with a second pen of 25 heifers selling $780.
Other good sales included 16 Simmental/Angus heifers, 7-8 months sold by Cameron Ellison, Tumut for $680, and 18 Angus heifers 7-8 months, sold by A and J Pastoral, Lacmalac, for $705,
Graham Butt, Waimarie Partnership, Muttama, sold 15 Hereford heifers for $755, and Steven Glynn, Batlow, sold nine Angus heifers for $690.
Lightweight heifers varied $520 to $690.
A good selection of PTIC cows sold to top $1475, for 13 Angus cows four and half year-old joined to Reiland bull on account Angus and Caroline Waugh, “Picadilly”, Coolac.
Bill Masters, Tumut, sold 12 Angus cows, six and half year-old with calves for $1600, while Jim Sheahan, “Akoona”, Jugiong, sold 12 Hereford cows with first calf for $1720.
Elaine Worgan, “Middle Ridge”, Tumut sold 14 Hereford cows, four to six years, joined to Hereford bull for $1075.
