THE NSW State Sheep Show was the ultimate platform for the 2016 feature breed to provide the finest line-ups for judge David Curtis, Bellevue, Millmerran.
Attracting the highest number of entries in the shed, the Dorper and White Dorper mat was filled with more than 200 sheep, showcased by 14 exhibitors.
With multiple studs sharing the spoils, the Dorper ring produced junior champion ram, Boland, Prieska Dorpers, Peak Hill, who was put over champion senior ram sash winner, Showgun, Global Dorpers, Narrabri, for the top accolade of grand champion ram.
At its first show, Boland, a 13-month-old ram who came first in its class of 9 months and over, milk teeth, was praised by the judge David Curtis for displaying "a beautiful carcase".
"He is structurally very good and simply just a beautiful animal," Mr Curtis said.
Sired by Kaya 09400, Kaya Dorpers, WA, and out of a Kaya Dorpers bred ewe, the grand champion was a result of pulling quality genetics from renowned Micky Phillips and Strauss bloodlines.
Marius Loots, Prieska Dorpers, said Bolands fat cover and length were the winning combination.
"He is very good in confirmation, soundness and correctness; he has a really good future and will be one of the top breeding rams at our stud," Mr Loots said.
"In the tougher country we need to breed this type of animal; it's about survival and we strive to breed this," he said.
Global Dorpers, Narrabri, success was prevalent throughout judging, taking out grand champion ewe and remaining ewe broad ribbons, minus the reserve senior ewe sash which was awarded to Oakview Dorpers, Toolamba, VIC.
Grand champion, Global 150061, was earlier sashed junior champion ewe after winning its class lamb over 9 months, milk teeth.
The grand champion was sired by Global Burger, the 2014 grand champion at Dubbo Show, and out of Global 90038, an imported embryo from South Africa.
Leon Van Niekerk, Global Dorpers, Narrabri, also had success in the ram ring, awarded both senior champion and reserve ram sashes.
Senior champion ram, Showgun, a 2014-drop, won its two tooth class and was sired by Kuiper, with reserve going to Mr Van Niekerk's four tooth class winner.
Most successful exhibitor was sashed to the Global Dorpers, after dominating the Dorper ring.
