WEANER steers sold to a top of $1170 at the Braidwood Landmark weaner sale last Friday.
The 2500 head yarding sold to a 99 per cent clearance, with only a couple of pens being passed in.
Landmark livestock agent and auctioneer Daniel Croker, Goulburn, said quality and condition of cattle was very good considering the season in Braidwood and the surrounding region.
“Buyers came from Mount Gambier, Yass, Cootamundra, Bugendore, Coonamble, Crookwell, Molong and the local area to attend the sale,” Mr Croker said.
Landmark livestock agent Greg Fagher, Goulburn, said the market trend was firm on recent sales in the area.
This was contradictory to some of the vendors and buyers at the sale, who said it was cheaper in comparison to the Canberra weaner sale the same day.
“Seasonal condition in Braidwood has been like most of NSW, in need of rain,” Mr Fagher said.
“Cattle presented in excellent to good quality and condition.”
Mr Fagher said Angus weaner steers mostly sold from $850 to the sale top price of $1170.
“Angus cross and black baldy weaner steers sold to $840 to Kirrawarree Pastoral Company, Braidwood,” Mr Fagher said.
“Murray Grey weaner steers sold to a top of $1020 to Colombo Pastoral Company, Braidwood.
“Hereford weaner steers sold to a top of $1000 to JV and N Sturgess, Braidwood.”
He said weaner heifers mostly sold from $640 to a top of $960.
“Weaner steers sold to a top of $800 to the Sturgess Family, Braidwood,” Mr Fagher said.
“Weaner heifers sold to a top of $960 to Reece Grant, “Monketee,” Braidwood,” Mr Fagher said.
“The first pen of Angus weaner steers offered by Kirrawarree Pastoral Company, Braidwood, KO and Onslow blood, 366 kilograms, 10 months, sold to a top of $1130.
“The second pen of Angus weaner steers offered by Reece Grant, “Monketee,” Braidwood, sold to the sale top of $1170.”
Mr Fagher said returning vendor Reece Grant usually topped the annual Braidwood sale with his Angus cattle each year.
Felix and David Shlager, “Banjo,” Carwoola, bought 69 head of steers, eight to nine months, to a top of $1020 at the sale.
The Shlagers said they also bought 70 head of weaner cattle at the Canberra weaner sale the same day.
“We have been restocking and have bought about 300 head in the past few months,” David Shlager said.
“We are happy with what we have bought here today.”
