DEPUTY Federal leader Barnaby Joyce has flagged increased water security through infrastructure in NSW at the annual NSW Nationals conference held at Tweed Heads today.
Already the Coalition has promised $150 million for Queensland dams should they win the Federal election.
Mr Joyce was particularly proud of this week’s promise of $130million to be made available for the Rookwood Weir on the lower Fitzroy in Central Queensland along with $20 million on 14 feasibility studies for we dams in Queensland that would support 2100 long term jobs and would generate $1 billion extra income from agricultural production.
At the same time Federal Government has extended a hand of support to the tune of $250,000 to revitalise the weir at Bangalow for recreational purposes, which would certainly benefit Richmond candidate Matthew Fraser more than downstream farmers in the Byron shire.
However Mr Joyce said more announcements would follow regarding small scale water infrastructure in NSW.
In saying that he noted the on budget and timely opening of the Chaffey Dam extension near Tamworth despite environmental challenges surrounding the Booroolong frog.
