The 2016 Shorthorn National Show judge, Kim Williams of Polldale Shorthorns, Dubbo, believes with the breed positioned highly in the current beef market, the event will allow purchasers to view what direction breeders and Shorthorn cattle are heading in the future.
“The biggest advantage for purchasers is they have the opportunity to view cattle from multiple studs and compare them all together in one place,” Mr Williams said.
Taking advantage of this will be commercial Shorthorn producer David Lowe, Gunnawarra Cattle, Yeovil, who purchased one of last years top price bulls, Moombi Oscar J27, for $16,00 from Moombi Shorthorns, Cumnock.
The then 1000 kilograms 23-month-old bull, has successfully joined 50 cows, with calves expected to drop in July/August.
“We will keep him on for about five years to hopefully get a few young bulls out of him,” Mr Lowe said.
“He is performing well and we hope he continues to do so.”
The top performing bull is an artificially inseminated son of The Grove Oscar A748 and the roan sire was from the 14-year-old donor dam, Moombi Isobel W57.
