STARTING with a brief history of the Australian Merino foundations, Australian Wool Innovation’s (AWI) sheep industry specialist, Stuart Hodgson, took 40 wool growers from as far as Narrabri and Gunnedah through the ropes of sheep classing at a one-day sheep classing school at Gwabegar last week.
Good rain during the day hampered outdoor classing activities, however dry flock ewes in the “Elstow” woolshed of Bruce, Margaret and Shannon McConnaughty enabled attendees to select their best by the end of the session.
Mr Hodgson conducts AWI educational days throughout Australia and this school was organised by Carl Carlon and Greg Sawyer of the Australian Wool Network, Narromine and Orange.
