The regular store cattle market held today at Wodonga when 2664 grown cattle were yarded, was quoted as being "fully firm" on the previous sale held two weeks ago.
Paull and Scollard , Albury, director Steve Paull, said the sale was “very good and solid.”
“The cattle market is still strong, and the lighter weight cattle are still in demand,” Mr Paull said.
“Quality cattle are maintaining the current values.”
Restockers from Riverina and local areas competed with commission agents purchasing for clients in northern parts.
Indicative prices for weaner steers ranged from $1490 to $745, with most selling in the $1000 to $1100 bracket, while lighter steers peaked at $715.
Unjoined heifers varied in price from $1265 to $815, with lighter weight heifers selling for $650 to $715.
PTIC heifers sold to top $1560, while cows with calves sold for $2050, for five Angus cows with Charolais calves.
In the pens of steers, J Powles, Indigo Valley, Victoria, sold six Angus/Charolais weighing 434kg for $1490, while Noel Leitch, Ben Valley Angus, Ben Valley, Vic, sold four Angus steers weighing 409kg for $1370.
Unjoined heifers attracted attention with a pen of six Charolais offered by R.F. and D.M. Briggs, Wangaratta, Vic, weighing 391 selling for $1265, and M.A. and S.T. Trewin, “Barcoo Ridge”, Bungil, Vic, received $1210 for their pen of 24 Hereford heifers, Wirruna-blood, weighing 384kg.
The opening pens of cows with calves sold well, with D and A Merbach, TableTop, selling seven Simmental cows, not rejoined with calves for $1975, and N.J. and W.G. Lazarous, Wangaratta, recieved $2040 for thier pen of 12 Angus cows, not rejoined with calves.
There were few pens of PTIC heifers, with 15 Angus, joined to Anvil bulls and weighing 525kg sold by S and P Gray, Mansfield, selling for $1480, and the Estate K Lovick, Merrijig, Vic, sold 17 Hereford heifers PTIC to calve July/August for $1540.
Albury agents Brian Unthank Rural, Paull and Scollard, Peter Ruaro Livestock/Rodwells and Schubert Boers conducted the sale.
