AN opportunity to crop, farm pigs and graze sheep and cattle has arisen at Gooloogong in the state’s Central West.
The mixed farming property “Springview” was listed for sale following Geoff and Ruth Baker’s decision to retire and sell their 642 hectare (1,586 acre) piece of land.
The couple purchased the property in 1980 from Geoff’s parents James and Elizabeth who had bought it in 1957.
Geoff, who grew up on the property with his brothers Charles, Max, Graeme, said the property was highly productive.
“And it’s in a beautiful part of the world, too,” he said.
He said the place would suit a family farming operation to a T.
“Springview” has 546ha of available cropping country which is fed by an 863 millimetre annual rainfall. The property was in close proximity to the Central Tablelands Water Scheme and had multiple permanent springs.
At present, the Bakers run 330 head of cattle and 500 sheep. In the past they have run 3500 sheep.
The 200 sow piggery on “Springview” had provided the owners with good cash flow since they built the complex in the late ‘80s.
“The pigs from here are renowned in the market place and we attract premiums for them,” Mr Baker said.
Other improvements include a good shearing shed, machinery shed, 600 tonne grain storage and a hay shed. The home, built by the Bakers in 1980, had four bedrooms and was of brick construction.
The property is priced at $1,275 an acre and is for sale through David Nolan, Nolan Webster, Sydney.
