NORTH Coast heifers sold to $1840 at a special sale coinciding with Primex at Casino on Saturday.
Hosted by George and Furhmann the special sale, a crowd pleaser in the cool air and bright sunshine, featured Charolais, Charbray, Brangus, Brahman cross and one pen of Black Limousin.
Jeff and Diane Champion, Tuckurimba, paid top dollar for two pens of red-tag PTIC Charolais heifers from Tony Farrell’s Calmview stud at Fernleigh. Red tagged F1 Hereford/ Brahman heifers from Noel Thompson, Coraki, sold to $1660 per head.
Peter Hannigan, Numulgi, paid $1460 each for a pen of the same, but unjoined, saying he was keen on the quality and knew a section of the market was eager for their type.
Brett and Belinda Small, Casino sold a pen of Charbray in calf to a Waratah Speckle Park for $1380 and received a bid for $1460 per head for their pen of Brangus, also in calf to a Waratah Speckle Park bull.
A pen of Angus/ limousin heifers from Neville Creighton, ‘Golden Glow’ Dyraaba sold for $1160 per head.
Auctioneer Darren Perkins reminded bidders that females were no in such short supply that cows with calves fetched the remarkable price of $3050 at Tamworth on Friday, with cull cows topping $2000.
“It doesn’t take an Einstein to figure out the state of the cattle market at the moment,” he said.
