THE farmgate milk price for Sydney has dropped to 46.7c/litre ($4.31/kg milk solids) after yesterday’s downward offer by embattled processor Murray Goulburn.
The historic low is in sharp contrast to the $5.60/kg offered 12 months ago – the co-op’s second highest opening price.
Interim CEO David Malenson said Murray Goulburn were caught unawares after the removal of the 30 year old European Union (EU) quota system. “The magnitude of the increase has taken most ... by surprise.”
