The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is working closely with a number of farming organisations to overcome some of the challenges of moving heavy vehicles and farming equipment without compromising safety. This includes working with local governments to increase the number of pre-approval or gazettals to open up their networks to save time for farmers.
The NHVR is also developing a number of national notices to reduce the need for permits, such as the Victorian silage trailer exemption, intended to meet specific conditions of specific regions. The Over Size Overmass Notice, currently out for consultation will also benefit many farmers moving heavy equipment.
There are multiple schemes under notice to assist in providing access to farmers and other primary industry operators.
The NHVR is finalising the development of new guidelines for industry codes of practice that are the subject of current consultation with industry.
