The Crowley family at Tycolah Poll Herefords, Barraba, celebrated their 15th annual on property bull sale with a $28,000 high last Friday.
Held in conjunction with Kyan Poll Herefords, Neil and Kerry Smith, Narrabri, and The Cottage, Bill and Judy Crowley, Cobbadah, the sale averaged $8611 overall for 54 head with 47 two year-old bulls topping at $18,000 and averaging $8106 and seven yearling bulls averaging $12,000 and reaching a top of $28,000
In the breakdown, Tycolah sold all 43 to top at $28,000 and average $8705; Kyan sold all six bulls to top at $11,000 and average $7500; and The Cottage cleared their five lots to top at $10,000 and average $7400.
Robert Hain, Gunyah Herefords, Cooma, secured the $28,000 Tycolah Overlander L07 as an outcross for his southern stud operation.
This is Mr Hain’s second time to Tycolah after he purchased a half share in Tycolah Jovial in 2012, which he has since obtained full rights to. L07’s sire, Tycolah Lynwood H184, was the draw card for the Mr Hain's 10 hour trip north.
“I was chasing a Lynwood son that was soft and easy doing and would cross well with my Sevenbardot and Llandillo females,” Mr Hain said.
Weighing in at 652 kilograms, Mr Hain said the 15 month-old bull still has a lot of growing out to do, but demonstrated some great raw figures of seven and 12 millimetres for rib and rump, 105 square centimetres for eye muscle area (EMA), an intramuscular fat measure of five and scrotal circumference of 41cm.
Tycolah Night Hawk K88, was secured by Guyra based stud breeder, Ben Rumble, Supple Whiteface, for $18,000.
The two year-old Valma Prestige son had a pedigree full of Sydney Royal champions and tipped the scales at 1042kg.
Local producer, Amaroo Partnership Barraba purchased Kyan Kodiac for $11,000, the top of the Kyan draft.
The two year-old bull sired by Cascade Brimestone B207 and out of a Bowen Vincent female, weighed 920kg and measured fat scores of 9 and 12mm, an EMA of 130 and an IMF of 5.3.
Hornet Bank Pastoral, Taroom, Queensland, secured the $10,000 top priced bull from The Cottage draft, The Cottage Vermont K12.
Weighing 1017kg the Valma Frontline son measured 10 and 17mm on the rip and rump, an EMA of 134, an IMF of 5.5 and a scrotal of 41cm.
Selling agent, Howard Carter, Landmark Barraba, said the sale attracted a buying gallery primarily of repeat buyers with a sprinkling of new faces and reflected the state of the current cattle market with a strong result.
The sale was conducted by Landmark with Paul Dooley, Tamworth, as auctioneer.
