A HIGH of $10,500 was achieved for Kansas Angus bulls at the annual on-property sale at “Northam”, Boggabri, last Saturday.
All 23 bulls offered sold, averaging $7228, with most bulls going to repeat buyers in the New England, North West and the Hunter Valley.
Kansas Aberdeen K185, a 21-month-old son of Kansas Aberdeen F84 and Kansas Powder Puff G100, topped the sale, selling to repeat client David Adams, “Barley Hill”, Dangarsleigh.
Mr Adams said the bull, along with Kansas Goodthing L23, would be used in the stud and commercial herds.
“I like the big frame and structure of the Kansas bulls. They suit my operation to turn off early-finishing, big, muscly weaners for people to background then send off to the feedlot.”
Sixteen-month-old Kansas Datalink L59, by Kansas Datalink J63 from Kansas Jolly R Forever E50, sold to repeat buyer Simon Thompson, Bundella Station, Bundella, for $10,000.
Repeat client John Finlayson, manger of Scone Pastoral Company purchased Kansas Goodfellow K105, a 17-month-old bull by Dunoon Goodthing G167 from Kansas Fancy F108, for $9000.
Kansas Evidently L34, an 18-month-old son of Kansas Evidently J81 and Kansas Tariku J108, sold for $8750 to John Chappell, “Bridgewater”, Dundee.
Mr Adams also bought Kansas Goodthing L23, an 18-month-old bull by Dunoon Goodthing G167 from Kansas Powder Puff G68, for $8500.
The sale’s volume buyer was Jack Ranken, “Tribella”, Spring Ridge, who purchased four bulls for a top of $7250 and average of $6000.
Five buyers – Mr Adams; Mike Lomax, Yandilla Partnership, “Riley Springs” and “Yandilla”, Werris Creek; Mick Burgmann, “Wilga Valley”, Narrabri; Chris Debbage, “Tanamera”, Bellata; Steve Carter, Gunnedah – each purchased two bulls, averaging $9500, $6750, $7125, $5625 and $7500 respectively.
Stud principals Rob and Pam Crosby were happy with the sale, which was run under the helmsman auction system for the first time.
“I really approve of the helmsman system because it suits buyers – no one goes home thinking they didn’t have time to make a decision,” Mr Crosby said.
Elders Gunnedah and Tamworth settled the sale.
