IT’S an outback bar with a Melbourne feel and it’s taking the town of Walgett by storm.
Like most small towns west of the divide, Walgett has a club and a pub, but local man Rod White saw the opportunity to open a wine bar.
He painted the store room of his hotel, The Gateway, and teed up a local lass to install some mood lighting and some mirrors. He stocked up the bar and they came.
“We opened just in time for the Christmas festivities last year and we’ve been busy ever since," Mr White said.
The bar is only open on Friday nights but can host functions any night of the week.
While Mr White owns the bar, he said the real mover and shaker is its manager, Emily Wilson.
“We’ve hosted birthdays, hens nights and countless catch ups here,” said Ms Wilson.
“It’s such a great addition to the town. When you’re here you don’t feel like you’re in Walgett.”
She said the vibe is so good at “The Fox” it’s attracting visitors from out of town.
