BIDDING reached $10,000 five times at the annual Eastern Plains Angus on-property bull sale at Guyra last Tuesday.
All 66 bulls offered sold for an average of $6529, with five bulls – Eastern Plains Equator K66, Eastern Plains Equator K63, Eastern Plains Docklands K29, Eastern Plains Docklands K119 and Eastern Plains Docklands K12 – selling for $10,000.
Equator K66, by Karoo A241 Equator E39 from Eastern Plains Abba B103, sold to Nigel and David Schaefer, “Glenowen”, Ebor. The 24-month-old bull weighed 842 kilograms and had estimated breeding values (EBVs) of +55, +100, +140 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight and +84 for carcase weight.
Rohan Rodgers, Old Oakleigh Angus, Merriwa, bought Equator K63, a 24-month-old son of Cluden Newry Equator F10 and Eastern Plains Bertha E25. He weighed 836kg and had EBVs +3.5 for birthweight, +46, +96 and +129 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight, +76 for carcase weight.
Docklands K29 was bought by Larry Tolmie, “Hawthorne”, Binnaway. The 25-month-old bull, by Carabar Docklands D62 from Eastern Plains Abba B38, weighed 830kg and had EBVs of +3.6 for birthweight, +44, +81 and +111 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight, and +57 for carcase weight.
Twenty four-month-old Docklands K119, by Carabar Docklands D62 from Eastern Plains Eda C102, sold to David, Louise and Mark Carolan, “Lyndhurst”, Armidale. He weighed 826kg and had EBVs of +2.9 for birthweight, +47, +90 and +118 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight, and +64 for carcase weight.
The Graham family, “Merrifield”, Uralla, bought Docklands K12, by Carabar Docklands D62 from Eastern Plains Bertha E4. The 25-month-old weighed 738kg and had EBVs of +2.2 for birthweight, +75 and +103 for 400- and 600-day weight and +6.5 for eye muscle area.
The sale’s volume buyers were Peter Bishop and Ricky Mitchell, Glenrock Station, Ellerston, who bought 14 bulls for a top of $9500 and average of $6461.
The sale was conducted by Elders, with Michael Glasser, Glasser Total Sales Management, taking the bids.
