A SALE high of $12,000 was reached twice and bulls averaged $7083 at the 27th annual Shorthorn Spring Fling sale at the Tamworth Regional Livestock Exchange on Friday.
Thirteen studs – Afton Park, Bungulla, Nagol Park, Howzat, Nero, K.O, Eselar Park, Logan Farm, Oakton, Terra, Terralea, Marrington, and Moombi – offered 47 bulls, with 42 sold for a clearance of 89 per cent.
The first bull to hit the top price was Marrington Kelly K39, a 23-month-old son of Moombi Zoro F68 and Marrington Ruby D50, who sold to Brian and Chris Hillier, “Happy Valley”, Ebor. He weighed 892 kilograms, had a scrotal circumference of 37 centimetres, measured 12 millimetres and 8mm for rump and rib fat, and had an eye muscle area (EMA) of 129 square centimetres.
Bungulla Kyogle also sold for $12,000, to Lester Job, Moombi Shorthorns, Cumnock. The 26-month-old bull, by Springwood Station Larrikin from Bungulla Duchess 30th, weighing 940kg, had 38mm and 17mm on the rump and rib, had an EMA of 130cm2 and measured 30cm in the scrotum.
Mr Job also purchased Nagol Park TNT Kracker K192, by Nero Lock Dynamite D064 from Nagol Park DD Romance D104, for $11,000. The 23-month-old bull weighed 916kg, measured 19mm and 11mm for rump and rib fat, had a 135cm2 EMA and had a scrotal circumference of 39cm.
Malcolm Kater, “Egelabra”, Warren, bought Bungulla Kirk, a 25-month-old son of Springwood Station Larrikin and Bungulla Derrimut 51st, for $11,000. He weighed 942kg, had rump and rib fat of 22mm and 13mm, an EMA of 129cm2 and measured 37cm in the scrotum.
Bungulla Kelvin also reached $11,000, selling to the Groth family, “Hillmoor”, Upper Horton. The 25-month-old bull by Bungulla Hamilton H37 from Bungulla Alice 70th weighed 946kg, measured 19mm and 11mm on the rump and rib, had a scrotal circumference of 36.5cm and an EMA of 133cm2.
The Kater family bought three bulls topping at $11,000 and averaging $8666.
Carlowrie Pastoral Company, “Carlowrie”, Kingstown, bought three bulls for a top of $6500 and average of $5833, and the Sinderberry family, “Synone”, Rouchel, bought three bulls topping at $9000 and averaging $5666.
The sale was settled by Elders Tamworth, with Brian Kennedy, Elders stud stock, at the rostrum.
