SCONE stud Turanville Shorthorns achieved its best sale result in nine years when a sale high of $10,000 was reached twice at the annual on-property sale at “Turanville”, last Thursday.
All 30 bulls offered by the Robertson family sold in the helmsman sale for an average of $6117.
A mix of new and repeat clients from the Hunter Valley, New England and North West pushed prices to $10,000 twice for Turanville Zulu K92 and Turanville K129.
Zulu, the first bull to reach $10,000, sold to Daryl and Grant Ford, Ford Cattle Company, “Monkera”, Stroud.
The 828-kilogram son of Turanville Zulu G51 and Turanville Anne F45 had Breedplan figures in the top five per cent for calving ease and rib and rump fat with low birthweight and high growth. The 24-month-old bull had estimated breeding values (EBVs) of +1.5 for birthweight and +28, +32 and +38 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight.
Wal and Jane Friend, Kercargo Pastoral, Walgett, bought 23-month-old bull Turanville K129, by Turanville Planet E140 from Turanville Pattie A80, for $10,000.
The Friends also purchased Turanville Senator K175, a 23-month-old son of Broughton Park Senator Z51 and Turanville Riddle C99.
The Ford family was the volume buyer, taking home four bulls for an average of $8250.
Their draft included 23-month-old Turanville Crusher K177, by Turanville Bonecrusher G107 from Turanville Coral E164 who had high ranking rib and rump fat, intramuscular fat, calving ease and low birthweight figures and sold for $9500.
Longtime Turanville supporter Jack Costi, “Belmore”, Sandy Hollow, bought two bulls for an average of $8250, including Turanville Kingfisher K124, a 23-month-old son of Turanville Kookaburra G7 and Turanville Buffy F88, for $9000.
Ross Becker bought Turanville Informer K126, a 23-month-old, 804kg roan bull by The Grove F516 from Turanville G95, for $8000 on behalf of Norland Pastoral Company, Weebollabolla Shorthorns, Moree.
Mark and Ciney Scifleet, “Oak Valley”, Binnaway, bought Turanville Kingfisher K88, a 24-month-old son of Turanville Kookaburra G7 from Turanville Enthusiast E95 for $7500. The grandson of The Grove Kookaburra had calving ease figures in the top 1pc of Performance Herds Australia.
Another volume buyer was David Jones “Hawthorne”, Binnaway, who took home three bulls averaging $5833 to use in a crossbreeding operation.
Tom Clendinning, “Neewarra”, Muswellbrook and Max Ireland, “Prairie Fields”, Walcha, each bought two bulls for $5750 averages.
The sale was conducted by Turanville Partnership with Jim MacCallum, MacCallum Inglis Scone, chalking the helmsman board.
